The Most Wonderful Time of The Year
So the holiday season is coming up, which means food, cooler weather, Santa Claus, and most importantly, Snow Soft.
What's your general opinion of pew pews in the cold/snow? Good? Miserable? Explain yourself as well please. Trying to get a general idea for games to possibly do at Red Dragon.

honestly Never played snow soft...
Usually stop playing when tempts drop below 40 during the day and pick back up when temps are above 55... but might try it this year depending on events and if my team is playing

Some of the most fun we have had at War Den Airsoft was winter games. People generally just seem to get along better and have more fun in the cooler weather.
Last year we held our annual Frozen Feet Micro MilSim game in January and had 87 players show up....so I definitely think that there is interest in winter games. Only negative....those poor buckings. |

Always remember to bring more layers than needed. Better to take off than need to add on. LiPo's are a must, drain slower in the cold than oldschool 8.4/9.6's HPA will work well in the cold, as long as you have greased and kept everything clean. Otherwise the air leak is obnoxious. Like Prophet said you don't sweat (much, I still sweat but I sweat walking around my apartment). Easier on the body if you're mentally tough against cold. Biggest thing is the muffled sounds. Especially with a goodfall or falling snow. Talk about a whole different environment.

Airsoft in the snow is awesome. For HPA users, let your air rig cool to ambient temperature before you chrono. If you chrono while the tank is still warm from the car, pressures will fall from cooling, which will lower your FPS.

That's true for unregulated gas and co2, regulated HPA doesn't suffer this problem -- Even if the pressure in the tank goes down, the regulator ensures the correct pressure to the gun, and thus the correct FPS.

Snow soft is amazing! First time I ever played was in a foot of snow and 10 degrees outside. I was hooked from day one.

Cold weather airsoft is hell on my guns. They usually break down during the winter. That being said, I've have a lot of fun playing when it has actually snowed.

Haha agreed. The reason I mention it, is I had a weird experience last winter where I chronod to just under 300 fps w/ a .20g bb right after I got out of the car. Then after everything cooled off to outside temp, not enough gas was getting to the fusion engine to push the nozzle back. I had to increase my regulator pressure and rechrono.
In theory it shouldn't matter, because the pressure of the Reg should remain the same. Maybe the gas expansion is different enough between warm and cold, which causes a drop in pressure at the nozzle. Now I say, just play it safe, and get everything down to temp before chronoing. Then I guess you have to watch out for the temp during the day increasing, which may increase your muzzle velocity. ![]()

Typically when it starts getting really cold I open up the engine, wipe out the old grease, and apply a very thing layer of brand new grease. I also swapped to a low-flow poppet valve, which lets me run higher pressure with lower FPS, which ensures the nozzle's proper movement. |
