Starting an airsoft club at the college level

I would ask on facebook but I'll do my part to revive the forums.

Does anyone in our community have experience in starting a club at a college?
I'm at Wright State right now as a commuter and I'd like to start a club here at the school, and I've looked at their requirements for starting a club on campus. But I'm worried about them shooting me down because airsoft guns look real. Any helpful arguments to use in a meeting besides we wont have them on campus?

Thanks guys

I may not have any experience in starting clubs, but I too would be interested in this seeing that I am also at Wright State.

You have a lot of work to do. At BGSU, we needed a minimum member count, designated positions (President, Treasurer, something else...), College Professor representative, and you had to formally submit it to the club office for approval. That took quite awhile to do, I think it took almost a year.

I'm pretty sure we used OrgSync for our requisitions. Crosshair and Weasel will be able to help you there if they check their accounts.

Annually, you can submit a budget for items (non-firearm related of course....) and their exact prices for a possible approval. The system moves as slow as the U.S. Gov't so don't expect good/quick approval.

There's a lot more to it, but you can formally submit patch designs and those need approved as well, it's a headache, but it's "free-money".

Any specific questions you have I may be able to answer via PM.

Thanks Flenner, from what I've found WSU has the requirements and such with President and Treasurer and such. Other than that the clubs website is rather vague.

Brewster, nice to see another raider on here.

This is Crosshair (forgot my old login a while ago so I made a new one). I was VP of the BGSU Screaming Falcons for a year, and president for two. It was fun for a while, but the fun comes from the people in the club, not sitting in the fund request meetings. The actual running of the club (at least at BGSU) was a nightmare. Too much work to keep the university happy, too many requirements and meetings we had to attend, they lost the money we raised from hosting games that we were going to use to buy gear for the team...the list goes on.
We are still a club, but not longer have any affiliation with BGSU.
Surprisingly, they were pretty cool with the sport in general, and we were actually on the front page of the campus paper on two separate occasions just talking about it in genera (we were interviewed and everything, it was pretty cool).
Overall, I would do it again in a heartbeat. I made a lot of great friends through the club that I otherwise never would have met. It was just the extra stresses that the university puts on you to keep your club got to be too much after a while. Hopefully your university operates its student organizations much smoother than BGSU does. But if you have any questions, feel free to PM me.
