If it was closer by I'd hop in but sadly getting ~13mpg doesn't bode well for me. Best of luck to you guys and I hop everyone stays warm. Hypothermia is real threat out there and can easily set in if you're not prepared.

You will not need to worry about hypothermia if you prepare correctly.

Alright everyone, 12 weeks from today. You have that long to get yourself in the right mindset. Get yourself in shape for this. It will not be a cake walk; both mentally and physically. I am wanting to argue that at this event you will walk more than most events in the Midwest.

Remember to test your cold weather gear out. If not sleep outside in it in the safety of your backyard. Check test, check, and test again all your gear you will be using.

For all you players that are holding out on RSVPing right now due to being skeptical of this. You have a right to be, new event type, new EOs, new land, but we are doing everything we can to make this event the best you have been too, if not one of the best. This is milsim. Get ready.

We are immersing you. If you do not want to be immersed in milsim, please, I am begging you, do not come. If you do want to be immersed, lease, by all means get here.

Okay I'm seriously considering attending NATO but the only three works rifles I got at the moment are my ACR/Masada, G36c hybrid, and my MSR, need some advice here.

Edit: I've been informed that the MSR has seen sporadic use by US forces in recent times, should be good to go.

As long as you're talking about this:

And not some bull**** Echo 1 has dubbed "The MSR."

Thanks.

Sorry, but rules are rules.
Actually i believe that the MSR is currently in use with US forces, however limited that is it is still in use, so you would be good to go using that rifle.

Then we are fine with you using that gun. Would definitely prefer it to be coupled with a recce/sniper team kit.

Staff, to assist those attending, would you mind putting up a list of recommended cold weather gear?

Just sign up as normal with your appropriate faction, and send myself or one of the other staff members a PM with the kit you will be using just to confirm that you aren't some dingaling running around on the US team with a Dragunov or the Russian team with a Barrett.

I know I'm not staff, but I am a boy scout with what I believe to be a decent amount of cold weather camping experience, so I hope I can add to the list of recommended gear, or at least give suggestions.

I would recommend a zero degree or better sleeping bag or a 20 degree bag with a liner or two. some long underwear/liners rated for activity and cold are advised. coldpruf make some decent ones for much less than under armor.
real coldweather boot socks and LOTS of 'em.

I've covered the most important stuff I can think of for now. things that should be on the list.

http://www.tacticaldistributors.com/has a lot of good gear, but it's pretty high end, so a lot of it will be pricy.

Being part of the field staff and experience based off Op. Artemis, I highly recommend checking out the Operation Eastwind forums/gear requirements. Stang, mothman, and I all have NATO based cold weather kits base of their list. It works extremely well.

We have a set of required and suggested equipment in our player packet which can be found on the first page of this thread. We HIGHLY suggest to anyone who has not seen or read the player packet do so before attending.

Here is said list:

Required Equipment:

-Proper kit for side you have RSVP’d for. Includes both trousers and jacket as
well as any gear used.

-Proper weapon for side you have RSVP’d for. US / NATO may only use US / NATO weapons, Russians / militants may only use Soviet or Russian weapons. Be sure to pack enough bb’s, batteries, and / or gas to last the entire operation.

-Cold weather gear. (To elaborate futher such gear could be: Dry socks, gaiters, winter socks, jackets like PCU or Arc'teryx Drac, PCU pants, Overwhites. Dress smart and layer up! )

-Eye protection.

-Boots.

-Water. Pack enough to last you two full days, or more than your body weight in ounces. Transportation will be available to carry heavy equipment and water to your HQ / patrol base.

-Food. Packing five planned meals is advised. Fires will be allowed at discretionof your CO; Consult him or her before planning on making one.

-Wristwatch. Used for keeping time during bleedouts and objectives as well as general timekeeping and organization.

-Compass and field map. Necessary for navigation to and from objectives as well as location of certain areas. YOU are responsible for printing out a small field map to carry. Large ones may be issued to CO for planning purposes. Minimal land navigation skills are advised.

-Empty pouch with red cross or carabineer for medical supplies.

-Death rag. Red or orange cloth to mark yourself as “hit.”-Rucksack or pack to carry gear to and from HQ / patrol base.

-FRS/GMRS radio. Necessary for communication and organization as well as emergency contact. Leadership positions are advised to carry two radios and must have at least one set on designated game frequencies at all times.

-Flashlight / Headlamp. Useful for navigation and illumination at night as well as in emergency situations.

-Sleeping system. Heavy sleeping bad, sleeping pad, and cold-weather tent advised. (Sub zero sleeping bag recommended)

-Garbage bag to haul out trash. There are no trash cans on the field, so everything that is brought in must also be brought out.

Guys bottom line use common sense when preparing for this. its better to be over prepared then under prepared, especial when night time comes around the temperature will drop like a rock

You will be required to ruck your equipment into the AO to set up patrol bases. This is with the exception of your tent as we will have a designated camping area for safety reasons.
