What defines a good brand for springs?

So my gun is only shooting around 350fps and i am looking to upgrade to make it shoot just under 400fps to meet Ohio outdoor regulations. I am curious about how can you define whats a good brand to select from. I mean its just a coiled piece of metal so can their really be that much a difference?

Each spring has a rating but in my experience an M110 from Modify will have a different FPS push than say an M110 from Systema. Honestly if you are shooting 350 there really isn't much need to push your FPS higher. If you are looking to increase range a hop up and barrel are a much better bet.

As Jonah pointed out, the added range you would get from that extra 50fps spring would be minimal. A better barrel and hop-up will definitely increase range, and if it's a good barrel it can add velocity as well.

To answer your question about the springs though: Yes, brand can matter. The type of alloy in the spring, the pitch of the spring, heat treating, and consistency can effect velocity, durability and a myriad of other things.

Jonah and loki both make valid points. If your looking for more range a good hop- up and a good inner barrel make a huge difference FPS is and can be overrated and really has nothing to do with range. Just a good barrel makes a big difference with accuracy a tightbore like a 601 to 604 is a good start.
One of my AEG's only shoots 360 but has 200 foot range and shoots pretty accurate. It has a 110 spring and a bore up piston head and cylinder head and a zero cylinder a 604 inner barrel.

Well i all ready have a M16 length 603 tight bore barrel in it posted below. The gun has a aluminum piston head with a polycarbonate piston head. Even though i have these upgrade and adjust the hop-up unit it seems to still shot inconsistently when it come to accuracy.

Would you recommend getting and entire new hop up unit or just modify the G&P stock metal one with a new nub. I was thinking of this one.

A new bucking and nub would be a good start.

Is there any brand or specific type of bucking you would recommend?

Maple leaf, prommy, madbull, there are a lot of them out there that work well. Do some research and choose what you like is my suggestion.

If anyone else has any input it would help as to choice.

What weight ammo would you recommend for 350-360fps with .20g bb's. I currently use .23g but i am wondering if i am alright to go with .25's or do you think its unnecessary?

.25 bbs will generally be more accurate and more resistant to both environmental effects as well as obstructions, although at the cost of range. They're the defacto standard at this point.

.20g is a weight, so I'm not really sure how to answer your first question. .23s would be a nice compromise between .2s and .25s, theoretically.

Don't go with too tight a bore BB. You can get a barrel that is TOO tight, and super tight barrels typically get really picky with BBs.

I know we got a bit side tracked but thank for all your help. I decided to go with the following upgrades.

Madbull Hopup
Maple Leaf Precision Hopup Spacer
Maple Leaf Bucking - 75
G&G M120 Spring

I am going to flat hop. I know i did not need to upgrade the spring but i figured why not anyway.
