Older Fields

Hey all, I was talking to some of my buddies about older airsoft games (08-09) and I noticed that Red Dragon and Valley Creek aren't holding games anymore.

I know that Spear hosted most of the games at RD, but now have Devils Playground, however its still a great place to play. I know field owners can be difficult to deal with and things happen. I'm just looking for some info to see what happened, thanks.

I think the reason for no games at valley creek is because Loc isn't around anymore, and for RD I think it just happens that no one happens to host events there anymore.

Valley Creek hosted a MILSIM last June, I went but only about 15 people showed up. Field seemed like it could be a lot of fun, hopefully they host again sometime.

Played paintball at Red Dragon back in 2007, always enjoyed playing there. Airsoft would be just as fun I think, minus the paint everywhere. I'm not even sure that Red Dragon hosts paintball events there anymore though from what I've been told.

I remember it, but it was a coffee factory, wasn't it? That place had some potential, but I think the owner's expectations were unrealistic. Loki and I got a tour of the place before it opened, and they told us the entire building would be open for play, but in the end, only one half of the ground floor was open, meaning just six rooms. Still though, there were some interesting events there.

This isn't really old, but why has splatterpark stopped having night games? Those were pretty fun I thought.

I believe it was due to the lack of attendance. Too few people were showing up to pay Splatter Park staff to stay late to shut everything down after the games. Thus, the hours available to airsoft kept getting shorter, until it was no longer worth it. As I recall, the last event we held there ended at only about 9 p.m., or so.

Wasn't there a place called "Hell's Basin" or was that some weird dream that I had so long ago? I remember seeing it a few times...

Hells basin was the ****. That's where my organized airsoft began. Wish they would have been able to keep it running. Sword did awesome games there and nothing matches the pain that hill would bring!

It was a mutual agreement between myself and the owners. Plain and simple: more people come out to play paintball, and in addition they make more money on paint/rental sales. Paintball is better business for them.

*edit*
We did some math w/ them - the only way to keep doing it was to guarantee a 150+ player turnout every single event. That simply wasn't going to happen.

Hell's Basin was freakin' amazing. Huge hillsides, good firefights, good people. SWORD's games were the bomb. Literally, thunder-B traps everywhere. One of my best moments of all time was at Hell's Basin. This particular moment involved surviving for 30 minutes outnumbered 3 to 1 and with no ammo. As far as I know the place closed due to a disagreement with those running the airsoft events and the property owners.

Nostalgia... Hell's Basin, Red Dragon, and Valley Creek. Those were some fun fields! I believe it's limited down to Devil's Playground, Springfield (2 Springfields if I recall correctly there is a semi-new one there.) and BlackOps indoor.

Whatever happened to Calamittyville?? THAT PLACE was the bomb.com!

What do you mean "limited down to".

He is point out how none of those fields still hold events. Though VC and RD are still open to my knowledge.

I'd have to say valley creek is one of my favorites. It could use thinned out a bit, as the wooded areas are some of the most dense I've ever seen, but at the same time it creates a maze like quality.

True, but I think Devil's Playground hands down produces thicker brush. There's an entire half of that field that normally doesn't see much play, but you can't see more than 10 feet in front of you most of the time. Valley Creek has lots of long pathways and open areas.

I agree VC was a great field, but Red Dragon held some epic events. Anyone remember Bioshock 2?

Jonah have you ever looked into hosting at either of those places? I'm pretty sure RD is no longer around but it would be fun to have some more events at VC again.... time for a revival!

Red dragon and bells basin

I was on team sword and I'm currently part of Milsoc the reason hells basin closed down is because of a falling out between teammates, the land owner was also a problem that was foreseen he was very old and didn't know what would happen if he were to pass away. Thus the reason we didn't open it back up when the team split. We as Milsoc now would love to host games at red dragon again however we can't do to the lack of participation from a lot of are team(life got in the way for most of us). We still plan on hosting games we just need to get are team squared away again so we can give you good quality Airsoft games.
