Camoflauge

Well, I have been looking at alot of camoflauge uniforms lately and have been wondering what pattern and type is most recomended. I like the dark woodland MARPAT found at airsoftarms, but its hard to find MOLLE vests that match the darker pattern, and there are not many black MOLLE vests with accessories. So I was wondering if the lighter pattern works just as well, and what you guys would recomend for general MILSIM events to match.

Thanks for your Input

OD or woodland could be substituted for a MARPAT vest. Also, their is quite a lot of gear in black. Check out police gear websites as most of their stuff will be solid colors.

If you want something for this time of year, where the grass is shades of pale yellow I'd recommend MultiCam. If you want something general that is cheap, your basic woodland would be great.

OD green goes best with MARPAT, but Coyote Tan works just as well. I know that the Marines use tan gear over MARPAT, if you want to go for that look. I myself would stay away from black gear, for as in nature, nothing is black.

I would use the coyote. 1- The Marines knew what they were doing when they did the studies on and came up with the color of the material (USMC Scout Snipers was chosen to developed it) 2- Coyote does not look right when it is new but, when you wear it and get the material "aged" then it blends in great and works very well. I wear up to five different camo uniforms from Cleveland to Fort Knox in environments that Maverick can't walk threw to urban and coyote has worked well everywhere. This is just me and it works for me. I think that you may want to look into something like bright orange or green.

if you like the dark MARPAT, then that is what you should get. don't worry about your vest matching that. you should probably go with and OD colored vest to start with. that way it can be used with many different camo patterns. unless you have money to spend and then it's pick and choose.

alot of events boil down to green vs tan or something of the such. so keep that in mind. you might just want to go down to your local ARMY surplus store and buy used camo at first. it's about half the cost and you could get two sets of different camo. No matter what anyone says, you have to wear it and that is what matters the most.

fragmented sentences, consider revising. By "Maverick" were you referring to me? The way it sounded i got the slight hint that you're referring to one situation which has nothing to do with cammo at all. You somehow made yourself smaller so you could slip past the briars undetected.

Yeah. I liked the dark MARPAT, but I noticed that alot of guys just use desert pattern or something of the likes. I was just wonderiong if it has any advantage because so many people wear it. It doesnt seem like it would blend in well with a woodland enviornment but what do I know.

I just might settle on the lighter multi-purpose MARPAT with an OD MOLLE vest or just desert pattern. If anybody has any more suggestions please put in your 2 cents. Thanks.

I would prefer CB (Don't know why I got OD gear) as it looks *cringe* cooler, but OD really does make better sense. The reason the Marine Corps chose CB as the color is because they needed a color that would work fairly well with desert and woodland MARPAT.

First, steer clear of any of the Tru-Spec or replica MARPAT, you will regret it later when it fades from being washed so many times. Only go for the actual Marine contracted MARPAT made by either Propper or American Apparel Inc.

Second, try to stay away from gear with a basic woodland camouflage pattern. It does not match as well as you may think with MARPAT. Look at getting OD and coyote brown gear only or a mix of both (which works quite well I might add). Its all personal preference, but just thought I'd throw a few ideas out there.

While I agree with most of this, I have to say that my Tru-Spec Woodland top is amazing and has been for some time. NO fade whatsoever. Now maybe the MARPAT is different but I don't see why.

But I agree with the gear comment. Its not really wise to get gear with pattern colors. Just get one solid color (like OD or TAN) as mentioned above. Mix and match the two to make it even cooler. Up to you man.

Nope, what Browning said is very much true. I've owned Tru-Spec MARPAT, and real USMC issue MARPAT. If you don't have the product in question, don't throw out your input as you have no idea what you're talking about.

After one wash, my Tru-Spec was gross. Fabric is way too thick, color is totally off, pockets in the wrong places. Whereas my actual USMC issue MARPAT, no problems. Washed a ton, no fading. Truly amazing. Simply put, don't even go near the Tru-Spec, it's awful. Truly awful.

I also forgot to add, the Tru-Spec, one wash, a button came off and the sewing became undone in some places. I have picture proof of the difference:

Top is fake, bottoms are real. Remember, this was like 2 years ago, back when I was a noob lol.

Tru-Spec is notorious for fading. Our entire team has gone through at least one set of Tru-Spec MARPAT per person in the last two years and each has had the same result...FADE after about two or three washings and is why we have issue-MARPAT as a standard now. Issue-MARPAT is 50% cotton/50% nylon whereas with Tru-Spec you get either 65% polyester/35% cotton or just 100% cotton.

Is there a good online retailer that you can recommend to buy military issue MARPAT and other durable items of tactical clothing. (Looking for a wide selection if possible to get a feel for what I want). Thanks.

You cannot commercially buy military issue MARPAT. However, the fading has nothing to do with the brand, it is the material. 100% cotton will fade the fastest, then Poly/Co.

Nyco will retain its color much longer, but expect to pay 2X as much for Nyco BDUs. Tru-spec does make Nyco BDUs, and they are just as good as the propper or any other brand.

The thread is over two years old. While I'm sure you had good intentions with this post it wasn't really needed. Necroposting in generally frowned up and should be avoided. Make sure to read the date on posts before you reply to it.
