NRA Marksmen Qualification Program

Dear Friends,

The NRA has a MARKSMEN QUALIFICATION PROGRAM for pistols and rifles.

Is there an AIRSOFT Rifle that has sufficient accuracy and precision to be used in the Marksmenship Qualification Program?

Thank you and with kindest regards,

Steven

First of all it's the NRA, so it's most likely going to be real guns because marksmanship is all about accuracy at decent ranges-which airsoft guns can't do. Basically when you're a qualified marksman, it means you're a qualified marksman with real guns. Now I suppose you could take the class and apply the skills to your airsoft?

Glad to hear that there are actually NRA supporters in Illinois, lol.

Browning- There are divisions for Air Rifles. The targets are set at much closer distances. The Rifles used for this are highly tuned precision arms. So the NRA does go outside of the "real steel" aspect. But I do not believe they will ever bring "Airsoft" into account.

There are special divisions for airguns. I believe it is IPSC BB or something along those lines. On the NRA site, www.nra.org, do a search for airguns. You might also try Google and Yahoo Searches. Many of the various firearms companies sponsor and produce competition level airguns. These guns are usually highly custom and expensive pieces.

The Digicon Pistols and SIngle Shot COntenders are more than adequate for competition as they operate at a very high muzzle velocity. Whether or not you could actually use them depends on who is hosting the competition and whether they will allow it.

I used the Anschutz 2002 Precision Air Rifle. Wow, if airsoft guns were only this accurate. Of course accuracy didn't come cheap... MMM 2oz trigger pull...I miss those days.

Thank you, for all of your responses.

Originally I thought the "Air Pistol/rifle" classification was synonymous with airsoft. However, after reading the fine print about caliber, I realized my mistake.

All the same, I will get the literature with the qualification requirements, i.e., distance and target size. I will post those requirements and ask your opinions as to which levels are doable with a given airsoft rifle.

Thank you again and with kindest regards,

Steven
