Abandoned Buildings

Has anybody ever thought about playing in abandoned building? Maybe something like like an old hotel or school? I've read that Navy SEALs train in abandoned buildings. Or maybe a small rural town thats been completely abandoned? I always thought that that would be a cool place to play. If anybody knows a good place, what legal steps would you have to take to be able to play there?

The ruins raiders used to play in a old school. The place changed ownership and they couldn't play there anymore though. Calamityville is an old concrete factory and Northern lights is at an old steel mill. You could always play at one of those places.

Well I'm not sure what legal steps you would have to take, but one to make sure of is that all buildings, walls, roofs, etc. are all sturdy. And also make a detailed sweep of the entire place to remove broken glass, nails, drug paraphernalia, things that would hurt. These are some things that would need to be done in case of playing in abandoned places.

Also, wasp nest and stray animals could make a problem. I don't know of any places like that were I am (Ross County) but this sparks my interest...

Ohio has lots of this stuff and has had numerous games in buildings and old prisons. I would suggest searching the forums for past events and threads related to this.

There is quite a bit of discussion in the places to play section.

Unless you have permission to be there and are providing a safe place for your fellow players, you should avoid using abandoned buildings or public property. Ya know, unless you want to be hauled off by the police for trespassing.

I mean, it would definitely be awesome to have an old building like that, but you'd have to make sure of several things, such as who owns it, extra safety things, clearing it out, etc. All legal & safety issues aside, you might have a hard time to find a place to do this, unless you:

A) Get permission from the owner
B) Own the actual thing
or
C) Pay for a place to play

Along with what Bushmaster16 said, about how you would need to check for glass, nails, rusty things, zombies , and all the other things like that. You'd also need to check the structural integrity, if it has more than one floor, due to it being old or in bad condition, since it was abandoned. If you can find one, and it's legal to play there, and safe, then you might have a good thing on your hands. I'd go there if you let the public in. (And proved it was safe and legal, of course)

Now as to FINDING one might be hard. Most buildings like that are owned by a company, or the county/state (I believe, I may be wrong). I think your best shot might be looking at some industrial sites, and contacting those companies. Other than that, you're on your own as far as I can help you.

One more thing I forgot. Most abandoned buildings like the ones you're talking about, and that are easy to get to, are in outskirts of a city. I don't think it'd fly with the local police too well if you just started shooting up some stuff right next to the street in a highly populated area.

Personally, I don't, but if you can find one, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE get some insurance, buy it, and set it up as a field. That would be awesome to have an old town as a field.

Its unfortunate that theres no website that has a list of abandoned buildings. That would make this process much more easy.

I've seen several good looking buildings for Airsoft play, but unfortunately they've all been near roads or cities.

I found this site, if you're interested,

http://www.forgottenoh.com/abandoned.html

It displays a list of abandoned buildings, which you could look further into.

Looks pretty sweet for some CQB. I suggest you look further into it, or contact the police department in that local area and see if anyone owns it.

There are numerous sites that list abandoned places in Ohio. A google search will reveal them. Your chances of finding a single building you can get permission to use let alone an entire town are extremely low especially because most larger structures will be state owned. I know people only interested in taking pictures that have been turned down by the owners of such places so I highly doubt they would let airsofters play there.
As Grease Man said, there are a few games that take place in locations like youre talking about so you may want to do a bit of digging through previous threads.
Good luck

I was thinking about looking into who the owner is, and contacting them about maybe setting up a field there. Defiantly looks interesting.

Hey I have talked to Bushmaster about this. There is an abondoned movie theatre on Western Avenue here in Chillicothe, Ohio. I also thought that would make a great cqb field. I don't know who owns it currently but if anyone wants to get in on that let me know. I can't do a lot with the idea do to my age and money limitations but anyone wanting to make money should turn that into a field.

You should try to find out who the owner is and get in touch with them. If they're not making anything off of it then they would probably be happy turning it into something profitable. Is it near any homes or stuff like that?

That definitely looks worth looking into, but its really far away from me. If you live close to it then definitely try to contact the owner.
