Looking for a new rifle

I have been looking around for a new sniper rifle. I want something a different than the usual l96's and the R700's.I definitely don't have the means to purchase a right hook fabrication. I have thought about an Sl8. Any suggestions?

Well im not too sure what else there is. I mean if you dont have a budget then look into the ARES m11o sass, if your in a budget, maybe a JG bar10 and an M40 stock which is a little picy but worth it. Also Kart makes a good M21 EBR.

Vsr + fortress M40 kit. I had one. It sucked. Don't buy it. Actually. Wait a minute. Sniping sucks. It's stupid. Texx, back me up please.

Here's your money $$$$$$ and it goes down the drain. Whooooosh. I've owned a CA M24 and An M40A3. Used them once. Sucked. Save your money and put it into a good AEG fund.

You can make a pretty nice marksman rifle from M16/M14 variants..

http://www.airsoftpost.com/product_i...ducts_id=31675

or if that is out of price range you could always find a cheaper version, however if you are looking for a nice DMR an M14 is a good way to go

Different is usually a waste of money. With VSR/APS2, you can at least spend a lot of money and eventually get a rifle that can shoot farther than an AEG accurately. Anything else is usually just going to break and generally suck.

A much easier route, especially if you want something a bit different, is to upgrade an AEG. There are tons of options out there, and you'll get a lot more use out of it for the money.

O'Malley, the problem with most people wanting to be a sniper is that they have the wrong impression. If you want to setup in a spot all day and wait for one kill then snipping might be for you, but realistically its not. If airsoft sniper rifles could shoot farther than an AEG, then maybe they would be worth it. However, most can shoot 200ft, higher end models might go up to 250ft, but that is really the max. My M16 can fairly accurately hit a man sized target at 200ft. The difference between my M16 and a sniper rifle is in the time it takes you to get one shot off, I have sent 50 or more your way.

There is a really good blog on snipping Vs DM. I personally like the DM role better because I like to work in a squad. A sniper's greatest role is intel gathering and staying concealed so you can surprise the enemy at the most opportune time. In that case his best weapon is a radio.

Look into a DMR, i think you will be much happier and better off. I would suggest an M14, just because they look more that role than an M16 (although it still works). Get a good quality one that doesnt shoot to hot and invest in a good tightbore barrel and hop up and you will have a lot of fun.

That link is a SR25...

The only problem with them is that magazines are not universal. Each manufacturer has a different variation/loading technique/design that makes them hard to find extra magazines for.

The reason why many people use the M16 platform is because its tried and true. Out of all the different types of AEG's out there, the M16 platform has the widest and largest variety of aftermarket parts, upgrades, and variations.

Also...why is this thread still open? It really is a "wut am bestest soft air gun? thread...Absolutely no specific questions asked...

Lurch you're an idiot. The only companies that make Sr25s are GP, Echo-**** 1, and Ares M110. And if you're new to organized airsoft why the hell would you wanna start off with a sniper? Get a beginner low priced AEG, go to an open play and see if you actually enjoy it.

Sure thang, bra...

Sniping is awesome, just like in the movies and real life. You spend days in the field and wait for just one shot that will completely change the whole way the game goes. Of course its also rewarding - while you spent several days sitting int he same position waiting for the game to start and then someone to wander into a position for you to shoot them, without being seen by the other 100 or so people traipsing through the forest and yet not seeing you in your awesome ghillie suit....

If you want to start airsofting by buying a sniper rifle, please go right on and do that. Completely ignore the 7 years worth of posts on this site saying otherwise and do exactly what you want.

Let's Curnch Some Numbers, ay?
Just to let you know that roughly 98% of airsofters wanted to be snipers when they started out and probably 98% of them found out the hard way that it wouldn't work outside of their backyard games. And of those who found out he hardway, probably 98% moved towards an M4 or M16 variant of some kind. Which means they have magazine interchangeability with about 98% of the people playing. And of the 98% that don't use an M4, probably 98% of them wish they had an M4. But I'm only 98% certain of that because 98% of these statistics are 98% made up. That makes the probability of this data being inaccurate being close to 98%. But don't worry, I read this guy once thought he'd heard another guy talking about a guy that read he'd heard someone say they thought this other guy knew that he'd saw I wasn't that far off. Dud, totally get a sniper rifle - any sniper rifle...hit the field and show them you're awesome and disregard what everyone else says. Because airsoft is all about you, baby! YEAH! YEAH!

Am helping....

Also, for the record the following airsoft companies make an SR-25 variant

Classic Army
G&G (HAHA)
G&P
Ares
JG/AGM
Echo 1

And like was said most of them use their own proprietary design for mags and gearbox which means you would likely have to stick with that manufacturer for mags - if they even make a mag you could use with a "DMR/Sniper" class rifle and if the chosen platform will handle upgrades to get it to the configuration you need.

What a totally mis-informed, reckless, and perfect example of a useless post from someone who has clearly failed to follow any form of guidelines here. This is not the information we are looking fore here on AO. Can anyone see why this thread should be closed yet?

Neg rep'ed too...

Ok, as with others who have said unless you want to wait in one lonely spot ALLLL game/day, for MAYBE 4 kills, then go for it, and if you want something different, here
http://www.airsoftpost.com/product_i...ducts_id=31338
thats different, uses VSR10 mags and they average 11$, however, if you're looking for a weapon that can play assault/MARKSMAN roles, then get an AK, M16/M4, AUG, etc.
90% of airsoft accuracy and range, is internal issues

also....A&K and DBoys make SR25s as well, and those are somewhat better than others....just saying from sources...

Maybe O'Malley doesn't want to go to any bigger games. Maybe he is just going to do some small backyard games with some friends. i myself was in that 98% but at the time i was just playing with some friends who also had springers. Either way this is still an opinion thread that is going no where fast

I'd highly suggest an Agm M14. Its a great gun and i can tell you from a year of using it that it beats a boltaction sniper rifle. I use to have a sniper in our group who as stated would be lucky to get 1 kill per match. He gave up on sniping with his L96 and went and bought a ak 47. If you do want to do some form of sniping i'd suggest just going with a DRM weapon. Go with an M14, Dragonov, or even an SR25. The M14 will probably be the cheapest and easiest to find.

Ya if you like a 58 inch rifle that weighs 20 some pounds go for it. With that 1200 you could buy an m16, upgrades, externals, gear, and enough left over to buy me and texx lunch thanking us for saving you and bringing you to airsoft salvation. Honestly, of you're do set on sniping buy one go ahead. If you use common sense you'll pick up am echo 1 M4 and start off small to see if you like playing the game. Good luck.

Though that looks cool (?) it's a china made gun. Which means it sucks. Dude I'll leave you all with one thing, you get what you pay for. You won't be master chief sgt soap price ninja fenix space marine delta force sniper because you spent 190 bucks on a piece of ****. To the maker of this thread, do real research.

I can tell you from owning a CA SL8 that they are too front heavy. The battery is up front and that long metal outer barrel make for a tiring day of sighting down the barrel. Mags are also pricey for g36 style weapons.

I'm with everyone else on here that says go with an m4. Airsoft accuracy isn't about the length of the barrel.

I agree about paying $190 for a 20lb paperweight, but there's nothing wrong with Chinese manufactured guns. Hell, when I get around to a BAR project I'm using a JG BAR-10, as do a lot of other folks.

I have been an off and on airsoft sniper for about 5 years. O'Malley, I recommend what some of these other guys have been saying about trying out a lower priced AEG first or maybe borrowing a gun from a friend and trying it out. The thing about sniping in the airsoft world is that it is EXTREMELY expensive. Many people believe that they can just buy a UTG L96 or any other gun out of the box and call it a "sniper rifle." The fact is that your just going to be playing with a single shot 400fps springer the entire event. Most sniper rifles (especially bolt actions) require many expensive upgrades to out preform their AEG combatants...I found this out the hard way by blindly buying a Type 96 and then learning that there were things called tightbores and silicon coated cylinders...all of which had an extremely high price tag...although in the end I had/have an amazing rifle that can out shoot any AEG, the overall money spent was an astronomical (~$2000) Besides a huge price tag, airsoft sniping is different from real steel sniping.
