craigslist is a matter that's pretty dear to my heart right now, so while I'm thinking about it, I'd like to write up a guide to what you should know about the site from the perspective of an airsofter.

1) CL has many sites. You can only post your stuff in one. So pick the one that best fits you, and keep in mind that you can only post an item to the site once every 48 hours.

2) Are you trying to sell your AEG/Gas Pistol/Projectile-firing toy on craigslist? Well, QUIT IT. It's actually against the rules. Any kind of BB gun is strictly prohibited. No, don't try to argue with me, I know what I'm ****ing talking about. If you list it and it gets put up, you might get flagged. But quit that **** because it's obnoxious.

3) Note on the partial list of prohibited items also that any guns OR gun accessories aren't allowed. Includes things like scopes, parts, etc.

4) You *may* list gear, as long as it's not "Items issued to United States Armed Forces that have not been disposed of in accordance with Department of Defense demilitarization policies."

So, basically, CL is a place that's good for listing your gear, but not accessories or parts or anything attached to or used to service an airsoft gun/toy.

If you have questions about the site or want to know more about it, I'm opening the floor here for your questions about specifics.

Why do I like to shoot at people with 6mm bbs?

I have started writing this blog several times and each time deleting it because it was a bunch of pooh. But the answer came to me at Red Dragon this weekend. For me, Red Dragon has always been a Zen type experience and this weekend was no exception.

The realization I came to is that I like shooting 6mm bbs at people is because they can shoot back. Simple, so simple.

In all my other pursuits; hunting, target shooting, reenacting – the opportunity for my target to shoot back has not been a factor. The real thrill comes not when I get someone in my sights; it is when I am in their sights and I know it. The bb that hits me from behind or some other point that I can’t observe holds no exhilaration for me. It is usually just dumb luck, never done with any forethought or tactical planning.

It is just something about being a better, faster marksman than the other guy that holds a lot of enjoyment for me.

On the flip side of this is that I also discovered that I like the role of Sniper or DMR. During one of the attack-defend scenarios, I was in the tower. I took great enjoyment out of pinning down several attackers at the “Kroger” building. I had two pinned down, one on each end of the building. As soon as I saw movement, I’d let them know I knew where they were and where they wanted to go because I laid out a path of bbs.

But of course, the life of a sniper can be short lived if displacement is not part of the plan. Those guys at Kroger’s quickly called on their battle buddies and filled my small window full of plastic … ending my time as a sniper – for that game anyway.

So, what am I doing in between events? Fine tuning my guns to optimize range and rate of fire to insure I’m a better marksman than you because that is where the fun is!

Howdy all I haven't played airsoft in a while now and I'm looking to get back into it. Honestly I'm more interested in getting some excercise then being super hardcore into it, i'll leave that to someone much younger than me. If anyone lives in the Cincinnati area and has a place to play im interested in getting back into the game a bit. Like I said i'm not super hardcore so I don't want to play every waking moment. Rather I would like to play every once in a while, practice some you know things like that. If anyone feels the same way message me and we'll see if we can't get a team together and have a little fun...and of course dominate. Nothing against the younger population but I would like to keep the team 21 years of age and up. But I would love to get back into it so just let me know.

Lastly get your runners together and talk shop.
Most important they need to know how to find those platoon and squad leaders. If they are wondering around the woods calling names, then they are going to get whacked.
What do the leaders look like (if possible pick someone who already knows them) are they wearing something distinctive.
Make sure they know the recognition signal(s)… Matter of a fact have them make up the signals based on what they have, not what you want.

You also need to discuss how the messages will be transmitted.
If verbal, you should make them repeat the message back to you, if they can’t repeat it two seconds later and to your face then they will forget it later. This should be automatic on their part. If not, then show them how. Either way make it one of your expectations.
If you are a letter writing fool  then make sure your couriers have a good secure way to carry the documents.
Do they get a ride? If so talk about the field rules for vehicles first, and then talk about your rules. Within the field rules, you should lay out routes, security, and whatever other tricks you can think of. Remember that runners are common sense, but don’t let the Admins shut down your Pony Express riders because they found a cool way to break the rules.

The above are things that I have used to set the stage for my runners to succeed. I will NOT claim that it is the end all solution, or the last word. As noted earlier nobody really writes about runners, because they are so simple. That said the simple things are often hard. In some small way, I hope this helps the community grow. All it takes is a little forward planning and common way of looking at it.
All to often at airsoft games we don’t set things up beforehand. Instead we try to save ourselves once the game starts, we try to grab some poor SOB and make him a runner.
How many times have we read an AAR where the commander complained that his comms sucked because the radio failed him? Every now and them somebody tries to use a runner.
Then we send him to his doom, like the Charge of the Light Brigade, and think its not our fault then he fails. To make things worse if my some miracle he succeeds we attribute it to our ‘great leadership.’ Meanwhile our real hero gets a “thanks you player X for running all over the field for me.”
When we should be saying,
“player X saved our ***, when the original Comms Plan failed, and there was no-one and nothing else to save us. His skill got the message through despite the whole mess being my fault.”
I’ve said those words…. Many times!
Eventually I learned from them. And since I’ve been a runner too, and probably will be again, I hope you learn too... it'll save me some trips.

Here is an "ant farm" that failed transmissions just a 1000meters away. Despite directional arrays, high power (40watts), and variable frequencies from HAM bands to GMRS.
Sometimes traveling is the only way to communicate.

I would like to start a little discussion on battlefield runners. I might call it a white paper if I have more schoolin'... besides that much writing...

I would like to start a little discussion on battlefield runners. I might call it a white paper if I have more schoolin'... besides that much writing isn't going to fit into this blog.
Anyway, I have gotten a smidgen of experience using runners in airsoft games, military simulations, and FTXs. (Usually Platoon to company strength.) And also enjoyed helping for several years at the D-day paintball game(s) in Oklahoma, assisting the Allied HQ (and now Axis High Command) run their battalion-plus sized headquarters. Nothing to write home about, but enough I hope, to start a useful discussion on a much needed aspect in the local airsoft community. Runners.

So what is a battlefield runner, and more importantly what does one do on the airsoft field?
To answer that question I would like to introduce some terms, and admit to something up front. First and foremost let me admit that there is no US military Doctrine on the use of runners on the battlefield! Shocking perhaps, but also understandable. Our military is highly technical. Runners and couriers are not. That’s why they work. And why I had better introduce my fancy words, it make me look smarter. :)

**PS. I would be happy to be proven wrong! If there is info on runners let me know.**

Remember there is no official version of these so I am making it up to a degree.
I’m going to break these tasks down into three sets, but feel free to mix them up if needed.
Runners: Usually carry a verbal message, on foot.

Couriers: Usually carry a written (paper) message, most often on foot but should use whatever means necessary to transport the documents.
Dispatch Riders: Are mounted messengers. They can be either type from above.

I differentiate these only for a more detailed discussion. You can mix these terms up, and most people will get the gist of it anyway.

Ok so what is a runner etc. The fancy version: they are an extension of the commander, projecting his presence beyond the range of his voice, vision, and transmission(s).
In usable terms, you ask? A runner, is the most secure way to send information between Commander and subordinate, short of face to face interaction.
Lets break this down into Pros, and Cons for a Runner.

Pro: Runners are more secure than radio waves, and even wire lines. They basically leave nothing for the enemy to find other than a dead body.
There is no paper to intercept if he is captured of killed, so you are pretty much safe no matter what. Even with a really good memory, there is not enough information to spill, even if he breaks under torture. A decent runner can even forget bits of information and the enemy will never know. Sounds pretty good. Right?
.

Now for the Cons
Runners are slower that radio waves. Blinding flash of the obvious! In fact they are the slowest form of communication. They can also get lost, forget part of the message, or mix it up. On top of that we have to hope that they make it at all. Especially if the enemy is present along the runners route.

What if we need to send complex info?
Ok, so what if I write it down? That way the stupid soldier can’t forget part of it. I’ll just make him eat it if capture is immanent. So we'll write it down and we give it to the same fellow, and then change his title. Couriers can transmit large amounts of information, along with maps, or other important documents or objects.

They have similar Pros and Cons to the runners.
Pros: Can transmit large amounts of information including pictures and maps. You can be as verbose as you want.
-Couriers can carry the most information.
This is a great way to make big changes in the plan.
Rather than using the radio for an hour trying to talk around the players with 'hot' throat mikes.
Couriers are more secure than radio. They are similar to wire lines, since both can be intercepted (or tapped) without anybody really knowing for certain if the message got caught.

Cons: Like the runner, they are the slowest way to send messages.
Unlike a verbal message, a written message can be captured, and used for blackmail later.
Couriers are also possibly more obvious. A single guy running around may not be suspicious at an airsoft game, while a courier carrying a bag, map case, or other “object” may get whacked by a curious enemy just in case.

Dispatch riders in our discussion are the same as the above, and could be either a runner or courier. The difference is they are riding something, duh! Throughout history they have been riding horses, and changing the outcome of battles! In the modern day they are in everything from ATVs to helicopters.
As “runners” (Verbal) they have historically been used like a quick nudge from Commanders.
As couriers, they have been carrying (or losing) documents that literally changed history. Their speed made them indispensable before the telegraph, telephone, or radio. They could go around the corner, and over the hill where visual signals failed, and they could do it faster than a man on foot. Sounds like the best thing right?

Pros: -Fast.
- If he’s in a helicopter Very Fast
Plus whatever pros they get from being a runner, or courier.

Cons: They make big targets!
Its hard to ignore a guy riding a horse, driving a jeep, or flying overhead in a helicopter. Mounted messengers are bullet magnets. Even more so in airsoft, where vehicles are rare and relatively noisy.

OK so we know what a messenger is, now what do we do with one? And when? This is where it basically relies on your gut, which is fine, since runners are a common sense solution to an age old problem.
Regardless of its longevity, no tactics for runners have been set down on paper. So its up to the runner to get through… the commander to send timely messages… and the subordinate to be waiting (impatiently perhaps) for a the message.
But here are a few tips that I have learned the hard way, along with a systematic way to create a successful runner environment. It is build on top of the Chain of Command that should be in place at organized airsoft games.

Sound tidbits (none of this is rocket science, but it is on paper)
-Pick a “healthy” runner, who can recover quickly enough to return a message.
-Don’t load him down with big weapons, ammo, or other stuff. He will not need it… if he does, then send a helper to carry that crap. Ie. An escort.
-Speed is not always the best thing. Otherwise every runner would be mounted if he could afford it. Low profile can be handy.
-Getting caught means the message doesn’t get through. (obviously) But the real problem is lost time. Runners are often late. Their trip time should be calculated 1.5 times a long as you think. Double that number for a round trip.
-Subordinate leaders MUST be on the look out for runners, and make themselves available. These guys just ran through hellfire to bring you information... make it worth their time.
- Runners are common sense! and with a little good sense you can accomplish much.

The system I have used, works well enough so I will share it. However I made it up, so feel free to do the same. When it comes to runners “if it works it ain’t stupid.”
Here is my simple system, but it relies on a set Chain of Command (CoC)

First and most importantly, the commander has to set aside time to get everyone on the same page. This is vital, or people and time will be wasted later when time matters most. Besides wasted or bored players usually kill a game, so get this right or don’t bother.

Now to use the time that you actually control:
First tell everyone you can get your hands on, that you (the Commander) are using runners, but especially tell the leaders of your Platoons, squads, fire-teams, whatever.
The leaders need to know that runners will be looking for them. So when somebody hollers for you, it is probably really important.

Better yet, set up a near recognition signal. Something that will get both people’s attention. Something that says the equivalent of “hot soup coming through.” That way the message gets there without wasting more time. Remember a radio message is a few minutes long, it is going to take a lot longer for the runner to make that trip. So don’t waste anymore time!
Some examples that have used.
-Whistles can work well in open battles, but not for patrols quietly out in the woods. So think about your missions, and your options. Anything from a wave of the hand, to fancy electronic gadgets can work.
My personal favorite is waving your hat above your head. It is simple, and hard for the enemy to recognize as a signal. I usually make the runners pin white paper/cloth inside their camouflage hats, otherwise its just green on a green background.
Lots of signals could work, use your head.

After you get done briefing the Leaders, go to the rank and file troopers. They need to be on the look out for runners, because they could be bringing vital information, or mission changes.
If you did set a ‘near recognition signal’ particular to runners (Highly recommended) then everybody needs to know what it is!
It only takes a minute to do it, although I would do it once early in the briefing, and then again right before the game starts. Helps it sink in, and catches people who might have been napping.

I'm about at my word limit.........

So today i got into an argument with one of my friends. He every time i complain about something he responds with "cause your gay" and today i finally snapped.

Now understand i have nothing against gay people and i think they should have the choice to do whatever they want. However, i am not gay. Though yes i wear skinny jeans most of the time my hair is a little weird, (an mini afro essentially because it so curly i cant figure out what to do with it, Son of liberty if you read this, help me.) Anyways, i really don't care what people call me but it's about why.

Yes i do joke around with him a good bit, but it's always very sarcastic and always in good nature. He always takes it the wrong way and proceeds to call me gay, and a flamer etc...

Now i don't quite see why gay is always the term used against me and people like me, but it really is annoying and indecent i do believe.

Now, please discuss.

What a lot of people don't realize is your hair style really says a lot about you. Think about the greasy kid from Grade School. His hair was always nasty and obviously unwashed, he had no friends, because you could tell he was a social outcast due to his terrible hair care. Anyway. When thinking of hair style, think of a celebrity with awesome hair. Like JD in Scrubs. I've gone through a few hair styles in the past few years. A few key things to think about when getting a hair sytle:

The Work
Having nice hair isn't for those who don't like responsibility. I wash my hair twice a day and condition once. One wash before work, one wash/condition after work and working out. What I do weekly to keep my awesome hair. I wash in the morning, I usually use a dandruff control shampoo. No one likes flakes, even if you don't have them, dry air can really make them stand out and chicks don't dig it. In the evening I use Axe Deglue, it's specially made to remove hair product. After that I use Suave Shine Control Conditioner. Everyone loves full, shiney hair.

The Product
This is where personal preference comes in. Decide on the style, each style uses a different product. Hair Spray, gel, paste or mousse are the common ones. I use paste, it doesn't leave my hair crusty like gel and no fumes like spray. It also allows you to tussle your hair about throughout the day for a different look. I use Axe Whatever paste for that messy/tussled look. It works. Axe has many different pastes, sophisticated look, spiked up look and suave look. It's all up to you.

Before
Make sure you comb your hair nice and straight before the application of product, makes a world of difference.

After
Don't neglect your hair! Just because your hair looked good this morning doesn't mean it looks good now. Hair will wilt in humidity. You have to make sure to keep the look up. Tussle your hair about during the day to ensure your look is at its finest.

Well after 3 short years in High School I've decided I want to go into the army, but as an officier. I've been talking with my dad, and other people about what the best way to go in would be, and they've all pointed me towards going through an ROTC program. The other day I went down to UC and talked to one of guys in charge of recruiting for a couple of hours, and he showed me what all it would take to "get er done".
At this point its still do able, but I have to get on it real quick, as I'm going to be a senior this year. I still have to talk with a Proffesor of Military of Science and do some more paper work, and choose which college I'd like to attend. I'm trying to go for a 4 year scholarship, and something close to home in case the scholarship doe not include room and board fees.
The branch I'm looking at most right now would be infantry. I'd hope to get in Active right after college, but with the limited numbers I'm going to have to earn it. Right now I could pass the physical test, but I'm going to try and re-take the ACT, and get a little more involved in school then I have been. On my first time with the ACT I only scored a 24, which the recruiter said was about what 50% of the applicants sent in scored. So retaking that is on my list of things to do. For the athletic side I've been playing lacrosse for several years as a club sport, and started wrestling last year as a way to stay in shape. My GPA is only a 3.3 at the moment, but I think I'll be able to improve that this coming year, and add it to my application. I've also been working down at Coney Island this, and last summer which he said looks good on the application.
I also have not picked a major yet, but American history, military technology, automotive repair, gun smithing, and criminal justice stick out the most in my mind at the moment. But now the fun part of looking at colleges begins.

So there I was...

I found myself in the Gulf of Mexico as a commercial diver working for a company called Oceaneering International. Later I cross trained to deepwater installation.

While working as a deepwater installation technician our job was to install a device which allowed manual operations of the wellhead via Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV). This device was known as a UTA and was installed by regulation for safety purposes. If the rig was ever lost, the wellhead was still under control. This device was usually placed somewhere within a 5 mile radius and attached to the Blowout Preventer (BoP) by an umbilical. Sometimes it was a little closer than 5 miles out, sometimes it was more than 5 miles out. The idea was that it was a safe distance from the rig.

Sometime during the Bush (Jr.) administration the regulations governing oil companies changed and allowed oil companies to basically govern themselves. By consequence some companies have chosen to take shortcuts in safety procedures. The omission of a UTA or similar device from the Deepwater Horizon is one such omission.

Several people who know me have asked my opinion on what’s happening in the GoM with the spill and the reasons they can’t stop it. Unfortunately without knowing some more details it is hard to answer to many questions with conviction. I am therefore left to speculate based on the information which has been given.

First we will look at the rate of flow and the details of the riser – or pipe – which is leaking.
The riser is a hardened steel pipe which is 20 inches in diameter and is 2 inches thick. For comparison, a 55 gallon drum is 21 inches in diameter. This leak is said to be pushing the oil out at 2000 psi. After watching the live video feed I would say they are pretty close with that estimate.

Now, their original estimate was that the leak was putting about 5,000 barrels of crude a day into the Gulf. If a person were to break that down into gallons per second based on a 42 gallon barrel, we would see the rate of flow is estimated to be about 2 gallons a second. As a casual observer I can clearly see this leak is producing more than 2 gallons a second. I would estimate it to be leaking about ¾ to one barrel a second. At one barrel a second we are talking about 86,400 barrels a day. Now granted, this is going to be a high estimate because I don’t know the rate at which the seawater is mixing with the oil as it is shoved into the water column.

So, why can’t they stop it?

Yes we are limited in our capabilities to work at these depths. Our capabilities are limited to the capabilities of the ROVs and the pilots who control them. Those pilots take pride in their work and train for several hours a day for at least two years before they are set loose in the field. These people are very dedicated to their work and are very capable of doing the job. The ROVs themselves use manipulators – or robotic arms – in order to accomplish the work at hand. These manipulators can be interchanged as needed to fit the job. One of those attachments allows the ROV to work with a hydraulic impact wrench which is used to tighten or remove bolts from a flange which connects two pipes. This allows the ROV to install or repair a BoP or any other piece of equipment which has been placed on the bottom. That’s right, that BoP was bolted into place using an ROV.

Why this is so significant is because about 6 to 8 inches below the cut they made in the riser is a flange. This flange should be unbolted and a new BoP which is in the open position placed right on top of the old one. With the BoP being in the open position you wouldn’t have such a fight with the force of the oil exiting the pipe. Once the new BoP is bolted down, the valve could be closed; shutting down the flow of oil.

Okay, so why don’t they stop it?

To be completely honest; I don’t know. Let me restate that for those who may not have seen that or choose not to see it. I do NOT know why they won’t stop it. Therefore every reason I can come up with would be shear speculation. However, I will go over a few of those reasons.

First, they could be dragging their feet on this for political reasons. With President Obama pushing to have his “Clean Energy Act” – which is actually another name for cap and trade – the statement made by his advisor Rahm Emanuel comes to mind. He said (to paraphrase) never let a crisis go to waste. Now I would hope that this isn’t the true reason for the delay in repair, but unfortunately this would be the best scenario I can come up with as the others are worse.

Second scenario: While drilling through a substrate there a many things to consider I’m sure. One of those considerations would have to do with penetration speed of the bit. If the penetration speeds are excessive for the substrate, you could fracture the earth’s crust. This would be similar to drilling through a slab of slate. As long as the bit does the work, you can drill a nice clean hole. Try to force the bit through the slate and it fractures. If this had happened in the Gulf, it could potentially open fissures radiating out from the bit tip in all directions. This could allow direct access to the surface for oil to seep through if those fissures ran deep enough. In this case you would not want to stop the flow of oil at the riser. Doing so would cause the oil – being pressurized by gasses – to seek the path of least resistance. If that happens there is no way to contain the leak.

Another scenario would be something similar to cracking the mantle; that would be rupturing the pipe below the surface of the sea floor. Though this is unlikely in most cases; this was not a normal procedure. This was a “super deep” well. They were somewhere around 30,000 feet below the sea floor. Add another (nearly) mile of water on top of that and you never really can tell what problems you may encounter. One likely problem is gas pressure. Every oil reserve has accompanying gasses which have built up and pressurized over a period of time. They burn these gasses off through a flair located at a high point on the rig so any gasses which were not burnt off are carried away from the rig by the wind. If the gas pressures exceeded the rated pressure of the pipe by more than allowable tolerances it would rupture. This rupture could happen anywhere along the length of the pipe but would most likely blow out very near the well. Again, stopping the leak at the riser in this scenario would cause more damage than letting it flow.

In neither of the last two scenarios do I have any suggestions on how to fix it with any hope of it actually working. There is the possibility that a thermo nuclear device would work… or, make a big problem much worse.

Even though BP was completely aware exactly how unaware they were, they still chose to take shortcuts with the concrete casing which surrounds the pipe going into the ground and secures it in place as well as helps to seal it if I’m not mistaken. This concrete when poured needs to be kept in a clean state. It has been stated that the concrete had oil mixed in it. This would cause a weak anchor for the pipe as well as a poor seal I would imagine.

When the bit starts breaking through the well, gas pressure is bled off and they take a kick at the rig. At this point heavy mud (a type of mud which weighs between 16 and 20 pounds or more per gallon.) is pumped into the well to hold back the oil and let the gas pressure bleed off. (If I have that wrong someone please correct me.) Here again BP chose to take the shortcut and use seawater (about 10 pounds per gallon) to hold back the well. Again, this has been stated and is on record.

Now, I realize very few people actually KNOW me and that I could be making this all up... but I'm not.

I have also posted a few other blogs on the topic one being here:

I'm not much for tea salons but my girlfriend loves them, so when she asked me to go with her and her sister to Zen Cha on High.st I decided to take a small notebook and my ipod. While there I decided I would scribble a few paragraphs to keep me busy. I wouldn't let either one of the girls see what I was writing, and every once in a while I would lift my head and ask for input.

Example.
"What should the character's name be?" Bob + Kennedy
"Name a dwelling / living quarter" A Tent
"Give me a geographical location" Bombay
"Name a oriental meat entree." Beef Sukiyaki
"Give me an idea for a place to eat food" Taco Stand
"name a type of head garment" Yam-aka
"Name a level of fine dinning." Five star
Anyways I jotted down the responses and came up with this. (due to the lack of time there, I never finished the short story.

--
There one was a man from Bombay who's name was Bob Kennedy. Bob lived alone in a tent with his pet dog "Roadkill". Bob loves his dog very much but against his master's wishes Roadkill likes to escape the tent and wonder around aimlessly like a nun in a strip-club. This is somewhat problematic for Bob because Bob is blind and Roadkill is his guide dog.

After a few days of waiting for Roadkill to return home, Bob decided to take it upon himself to retrieve his lost pet. Armed with the only things he could locate, a fork and a knife, Bob set off with low spirits and an empty stomach. Due to the fact that he is blind, Bob relied on his sense of smell to maneuver across town.

After hours of searching with no avail, Bob's hunger got the better of him and he decided to find himself something to eat. Bob eagerly followed the scent of beef sukiyaki to a nearby five-star taco stand full of people. The sight of a blind man wondering about with a knife and fork startled the patrons, and when the server caught view of Bob he quickly greeted Bob and asked if there was something he could help him with. "Yes" replied Bob. "I'm hungry and am looking for Roadkill."

To be continued.

The guide to becoming "That Annoying new Guy"

Noobs, Newbies, FNGS, pricks, Minors and asshats. We all have names for those posters who inhabit airsoft forums. We all know the ones, those posters who come out of nowhere, but shake the place up in such a way that before you can type WTF, there is a new cowboy in town with a high post count and something to prove.

What follows is the definitive guide to being "That Annoying New Guy" on the forums. It should be informative, revealing and most of all, I hope, entertaining.

Here is the guide to being "That Annoying New Guy" (For ease of communication, for the sake of this guide it shall be abbreviated to ANG from now on.) presented in a step by step fashion.

Preliminary Step; Stupid Forum name.(Optional)

Now there are different ways for the ANG to practice his art. Some choose to do so by stealth, choosing a normal forum name to use, but some of the most prolific ANGs of our time and in the past have utilised the devastating effects of a stupid or l337 name with little semblance to an actual title, in the brute show of force approach.

e.g. L33tz0rSn|p3r92, CrOuChing SnIpEr HiDdEn CaMpEr or something like M4sRuleOK

Step 1; Exaggerated first post

It is essential for ANGs to announce their existence to a forum by posting an initial post expressing an interest in the sport. This post, however, is to be the most over hyped and exaggerated post in history, with your enthusiasm levels being at an all time high, despite the fact that you have never held an airsoft gun, let alone played a game with one. It is acceptable to build up this enthusiasm over a number of posts, or in the case of late bloomers, even across numerous threads. This is common for people who, due to age or financial restrictions, cannot play the sport for sometime, with a steadily growing amount of over enthusiasm.

WARNING TO FORUM VET'S; This is the early stages of ANGism and for alot of people is not a problem. Whilst you may find this over joy of the sport annoying, being a cynical prick like myself, others will most likely see it as enthusiasm and will encourage it. Whilst you know best, being negative towards the ANG at this early stage will most likely get you called Elitist or will invoke Godwins Law towards you. You have been warned.

Step Two; Ask Annoying Questions

Now the ANG in training will continue to bloom like a festering weed if left to its own devices. By this stage it may or may not have played a game and may have even more annoying over joy for the sport.

The ANGs at this stage will begin to ask annoying questions, completely ignoring helpful posts titled "MUST READ" and stuck in place for all to see. Questions such as "is this ridiculously over priced trade me gun any good?" or "Which is the best make of M4 out there?" Or "Where is the cheapest place to buy this random gun noone likes". We all know these questions, we have all read dozens of them, hell we probably asked a few ourselves when we were new.

But the difference is, that the ANG will persist. We will tell him what it is he needs to do, such as see his armour etc, or wait to try a few guns before deciding, but he will continue to persist like a pubescent teenage boy harassing his first girlfriend for a little sugar. He will post about how he just wants to know if this is a good gun etc and completely ignore any advice given.

Be advised, as above this is early days and many of your more tolerant forum brethren may not be sick of this person yet, so hold steady or the Nazi calls will come a flying your way.

Step Three; The Pointless Thread.(Optional)

Most ANGs, for some bizarre reason, will feel the need to ask if anyone has played airsoft without actually using airsoft guns in some fashion. They will ask about some strange means of propelling BBs towards the opposition.

e.g; As a kid, I use to use my spoon to flick peas at my sister at the dinner table, and I was thinking, could you do that for airsoft? HAve any of you tried this? It would be funny as! LOL ROFL

Why they do this is unknown, perhaps in some attempt at humour. In any case, it does seem to happen with enough occurrence to warrant a mention.

Step Four;The emerging Post Whore

This is the point where the ANG really begins to grate on the nerves. It will appear that no matter what the subject matter of a thread, the latest post in that thread will almost always be from the ANG. It does not matter how little he knows on the subject, he will have something to say on it. Even if it is only "yeah lol, I agree" he will say it. It is now that even the most laid back forum user will begin to complain to others of the ANGs actions.

Now one cannot really blame the ANG for this behaviour. One must always bare in mind that there is a high likely hood that he will consider alot of posters to be friends by now, and will almost feel like he fits in. This feeling of having someone possibly thinking he is cool and has a life will most likely be new to the ANG and as such he will be spending his entire waking life on your forums. One can only but feel sorry for these sad souls.

Step Five; Offend someone of far greater value than youOptional.

It is at this stage of the ANGs evolution that someone will snap and tell them to pull their head in, most often a older player or even a mod.

Now it is completely possible that the budding ANG takes this on board and manages to stop his behaviour right there...

"Hi everyone, Im Paul AKA AksR4Me. I'm a recovering ANG. In the last 3 weeks I have only posted ten times and only offended one person.." Claps all round....

Alot of ANGs will just ignore this word of advice and carry on down the path of degradation. A select few, however, will turn around and retort towards the older poster, who is in reality doing them a favour, with vengeance and righteous fury. It can be anything from immature lashing out, to a attempt at a thoughtful or even witty reply. This will further entrench him against the entire forums community at large.

e.g; MOD "Hey mate, your starting to get a bit annoying with the constant posts, could you just try and think "is my post worth it" before posting?"

L337_Pistol_Boy007 "Well in reality all my posts are worthwhile. I try my utmost to make sure that I utilise my intelligence in only a way that can improve these forums.

Infact, it is YOU who needs to watch their posts. You know, there is a little thing you can download, it will do you a world of good, its called a life..."

MOD *ban*

Step Six; The all Knowing ANG

The ANGs who have lasted this long will be well and truly on their way to infamy by now. Now they have reached the stage where they are truly hated by all.

The Know it all Stage.

By now, the ANG will have a post count as high as the empire state building, and due to having posted more than 99% of the forum users, they will start to think their comments bare more weight and value. As such they will go around acting as if they know all and we all know nothing. They will often act as if the forums are a right as sacred as the right to breathe and will feel the need to impose their apparent know how upon everyone. No question shall go unanswered by the ANG. Who cares if mister post count;15 has been playing for 20 years, he obviously doesnt know as much as the ANG with a post count of 3000 and two whole games experience, otherwise he wouldve posted at least 2000 times telling everyone he knows so much due to 20 years experience. Duh.

Step Seven; The Neg Rep Button

By this point everyone on the forums is fed up with the ANG and has resorted to the Rep tool to inform them. And of course the ANG will be outraged at this. How dare people tell him how to act on the forums in secret, what prick would do such a thing instead of just telling them out right. What the ANG has forgotten that people DID tell him about 1000 posts ago and he ignored them. Every neg rep will cut the ANG deep and he will be a bitter confused forum user( or this could be due to the fact he is only just starting puberty).

Every other post made by the ANG will be rather emo, complaining about how his last post received neg rep and noone likes him. This realisation will prove to be a major part in the ANG moving on into the next stage oh his development.

[Step 7.5: Balls out
"This is where the ANG goes out in an absolute blaze of glory, picking a fight with one or several Vets/Mods in the most ridiculous thread in AO history. Usually ends up with the ANG being perma-banned, and the entire thread being secured in the illustrious Hall of Infamy."
- Torque]

Step Eight; Acceptance, moving on.

The blatant hate the ANG has taken on board normally hits home about now, or there will be new ANGs on the forums taking the heat away from him. As such the ANG will slowly post less and less, and people will grow to forget him as they slander other ANGs. Over time the ANG will develop into a nearly normal forum user, with only a wee bit of stigma left over form his glory days of old, where he made 1000 posts a month, had only ever played two games and hadnt yet kissed a girl. Forgotten, the ANG hands over the crown and moves on, to be occasionally mentioned at games followed by laughs and comments about the diminutive length of his manhood.

And there you have it! My guide to being a first class ANG! I hope you enjoyed this little comedy piece, and if not, STFU, you probably got no life anyway I hear you can download them on the internet these days... Maybe some people on here should read this :P

I ordered this gun off of www.airsoftmegastore.com. It cost about $180. It came with the gun, 300rd hi-cap (metal), foregrip (plastic), barrel extension (metal), cleaning rod, and 250 .2g BBs. It did not come with a speed loader which is a bit of a disappointment because I lost my speed loader a few months ago. This is a full-metal gun. Everything that is supposed to be metal is. Metal parts include the upper reciever, barrel, sights, rails, trigger, selector switch, and other small components on the gun. The stock and lower reciever are a high quality plastic. There is also a rubber buttplate on the stock. I have not yet seen the internals.
The sights are nice and the cheek-rest is adjustable. The stock is also adjustable and foldable. I believe the magazine is a standard M4 mag. It uses a small battery which some of you may want to replace with a larger one. The barrel extension is pointless, it doesn't have an inner barrel in it. I put it on simply because I like how it looks. The only problem I can see is that the battery wire is exposed while the stock is folded. I estimate that this gun weighs about 10 pounds.

The gun shoots great out of the box. It is very accurate with .2s and is very powerful. It was shooting holes in a tarp from 100 feet away. I haven't fired the gun a lot yet, (these are my first impressions), but I can tell I will be very happy with this gun. I will give a final verdict in a few weeks.

Part 1: Maturity in the physical aspect.

When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child, but when I became...

Part 1: Maturity in the physical aspect.

When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child, but when I became a man, I put away childish things. – Cereal Killer. Loosely quoted from 1st Corinthians 13:11

Let’s face it; do any of us know the real definition of maturity? Up until I did the research to write this, I thought I did.

Adulthood: the period of time in your life after your physical growth has stopped and you are fully developed.

So what do we typically mean when we describe someone as “mature”? Well, despite your ability to grow facial hair (which I’m totally jealous of!) and your ability to make baby paste…which has nothing to do with the size of your wee wee (also jealous of!) it isn’t the visual reference we’re interested in examining. Physically maturing is more than just the visual aspect of maturity. For those who don’t know or have forgotten, your cognitive process changes as you develop from a “kid” to an “adult”. I’ll site Piaget's theory of cognitive development just because I’ve always like his the best.

Piaget theorized that as we develop we think in 4 stages in our lives. I’ll omit the first stages as most of us don’t play airsoft with a concrete operational stage thinker. Instead I’ll start with the 4th stage in his theory, formal operational stage. The two important points in this stage of thinking is imaginary audience and personal fable. Imaginary audience is the process of thought whose end result is the attention of an audience. We see it all the time. Kids act out retardedly just for the attention. Personal fable is the thinking that he/she is unique and invincible.

As we get older our social thought process evolves into more tolerable forms of those two types of social thinking. The typical adolescence airsofter exhibits these behaviors on the field in the form of screaming and carrying on during a charge into the enemy. People like to laugh. Generally we’re grown up to believe those that can make others laugh are cool. For most of us this generalization is gone by the time we’re a sophomore/junior/senior in college. However, some of us also forget that we ourselves most likely had a similar behavior during our cognitive development. The typical adolescence airsofter also tends to exhibit a “one man army” type behavior. As a population, we classify this behavior as the Master Chief from the Halo series behavior. Once again, this behavior too evolves with our age and while its appearance is less “child like” to men, its still viewed as adolescent behavior. Instead of playing Master Chief when we get older, we get drunk and do impossible/dangerous stunts because we “think” we can do them.

Part 2: Maturity; Just because you’ve got to wear a condom now doesn’t mean you’re mature.

Maturity is a psychological term used to indicate that a person responds to the circumstances or environment in an appropriate and adaptive manner. This response is generally learned rather than instinctual, and is not determined by one's age.

This definition of maturity needs the least amount of explanation If we think of our brains as masters of repitition then it’s easy to understand the above definition. If Person A smacks Person B in the same spot every 30 seconds, Person B will eventually derive the pattern. If repeated behavior continues, Person B will act with a counter active behavior. If the event continues, Person B will act with a counter active behavior without concentrating on the reaction. Its called muscle memory. It’s where we do something we’ve learned without having to think about doing it. It’s our mind’s ability to speed up our reaction time to an equation we have already solved. So how does it apply to social behavior? The more we experience, the more we are able to better fit into the environment we’re currently in. So yes, typically if you’re a teenager, you aren’t yet mature. Why? Because you haven’t experienced enough life in your newly created frontal lobe based think tank to draw a picture of who YOU are. While you may appear more mature than others of your age, it doesn’t take much for someone to observe the child like behaviors in your social interaction. Just because you appear formal in your first contact, your reaction to someone’s criticism (positive or negative is irrelevant) gives you away.

Ok, so how can we accurately determine if someone has reached society’s level of maturity? It’s simple. If a person is able to act similar to others in the same situation then others must believe that this person is mature.

The problem is that everyone has a different definition of what constitutes the behaviors our surroundings enforce upon us. However, the bigger problem is the difference in definitions between generations. What a generation of 20 year olds defines as formal behavior will not match a generation of 40 year olds’ definition. However, mixing the two populations frequently will eventually lead to the adaptation of a different definition that both parties will adopt and display.

So what’s the take home from this article? If you're over 18 Stop giving a **** about how someone acts just because you don’t act the same. Shut the **** up and play. If it’s a serious situation the person is going to act more serious than they would in a non serious situation. Does it mean that their less serious reaction is less mature? Nope! It just means they aren’t a robot and that we all think differently…and that you just need to shut the **** up and play the game.

If you're under 18; you're in a privileged position to learn a thing or two. Keep your mouth shut and your eyes open. Contrary to popular belief, this is an adult's game. You are not special in a kingly way and thus you will not be treated that way.

Problem solved.

Here is my small review of my pair of Gunnar Opticks.

First of what are they?
Here is the website www.gunnars.com

There is all kinds of information and various scientific terms they use to explain their eye wear.

Short Story: The eye wear is designed to reduce eyestrain from the bright lights of all sorts of electronic screens such as televisions, computer monitors, cell phones, etc. All of these items are extremely bright compared to a natural environment. The most harsh colors being shades of blue, this is why the lens are tinted yellow to counteract the blue shades.

I know there are a lot of gamers and tech buffs on this forum and I wanted to simply introduce you to a product you may have never heard of. In today's world we can all admit to spending a lot of time in front of bright screens for whatever reason, work, entertainment, or most likely both.

My personal review: I have had the glasses for about a week now, I can tell you that they do reduce tension on your eyes, at least for me. My main problem is mostlikely from squinting and this builds up tension in my eyebrows. I can sit on the computer for hours with little strain. Where as before after a few hours I would want to take a break, and rest my eyes.

Do they work, I can't really be the judge on that topic, they are not some cure all, after sitting at a computer for 3-5 hours or so I still suffer from minor tension but not near as bad as I have in the past. Maybe in a couple weeks the difference will be more noticeable.

They are expensive, starting price is around $70 and shoots up into several hundred depending on the frames.

Please do not flame me, or spoil the blog by saying they are overpriced and useless. Let the people that buy them be the judge, I figured there would be some interest and hopefully it will help someones suffering.

Memorial Day (or Decoration Day as my father used to call it) is this weekend. Over the years, this federal holiday meant a day off school or day off work with parades in the morning, a good old B&W war movie on TV, and a family cookout in the afternoon. It was also the first unofficial day of summer.

Now that I’m married to a young lady from Indiana, it seems this weekend also has something to do with auto racing. Who knew!

This holiday originated with Civil War widows decorating the grave sites of their fallen husbands and other family members. It is currently celebrated near the day of national reunification after the Civil War. It is a day when we are to remember the nation’s fallen, the men and women that have died in service of this country.

I must admit that I am extremely fortunate. I have never served in combat and I have never lost anyone to the tragic circumstances of armed conflict. Your experience might be different.

For me, my plans for Memorial Day won’t be too much different than they usually are. I’ll still go to the parade, have family over for a cookout, and celebrate the first day of summer. But, I will make time to attend church and say a prayer for the fallen, fly the flag for the fallen, and raise a glass to them at the family cookout. My family will remember the reason for the day.

How you choose to celebrate the day is for you to decide. But I encourage you to remember the people that gave up all of their tomorrows for your today.

The blog has been suffering a bit lately. I've been working a lot and I've had three sets guests. First, my parents came at the beginning of May. They brought some things of mine that I'd really been missing that I hadn't taken with me. We bonded. It was weird. The Boyfriend and I are happy, and I think it made them happy to see me so happy. I guess it was just one big happyhappyjoyjoy fest when they were here, so it was really crushing when they left. I probably spent two days crying about it once they'd gone.

The some WoW friends visited for the day. We'd never met in person despite two or three years of net friendship.

Now, my best friend (who lives in Miami) is visiting to share our birthdays. We were born a few states apart, but our times of birth were only 17 hours apart. Despite all the crap we've both been through together, we've always been friends. She got married last December, and the Boyfriend and I visited and participated in her nuptials on the beach in Key West. Now she's here and we're racing around town in a butt-ugly electric blue convertible PT cruiser.

Having all these wonderful people visit me really makes me homesick, however. It's cold right now in San Francisco. It was cold when I got here... it's never really warmed up beyond 65 degrees. It's always windy. It's loud. There are a LOT of hippies.

I think I just wanted to take the time to say I miss my Ohio friends. So, from the sunny (albeit cold) west, hello, and I miss you all. Except Phil. (fu phil.)

This was going to be a lengthy post, but I don't have the strength to write much right now due to several things. My father, if you can in fact call him that, has always when it is concerned with the family at large, done his own thing. My mother did the majority of raising me and my sister, the majority of the teaching of right and wrong, ect. My dad was just sort of...there. Most times when I try to do things with the man, he treats it more like a burden then a fun outing between father and son. When we do hang out, all he does is whine about how hard is day is and proceeds to go through a list of everything wrong with his life. This is a man to whom the positive side of life does not exist. Tonight, I more or less was told he no longer has time for me, what with, you know, his new band and his ****ty little mid life crisis. Now my mother is trying to give me the "He didn't mean it" speech. She is so deep in denial she's swimming, this woman.
I'm not hurt. I've hurt and I'm past the point of hurting any more. I'm more dissapointed then anything else. It's no wonder I became so messed up as I am.

I'm half tempted when I return to Pittsburgh not to return to Ohio 'till Thanksgiving.

Welcome to my special hell.

There is a lengthy debate going on about the nature of violence. I have already talked about it in an earlier post...

There is a lengthy debate going on about the nature of violence. I have already talked about it in an earlier post, but this is a slightly different question. Where does the blame for violence lay?

I have recently become aware of a number of recent campaigns on craigslist to shut down the personals section. Craigslist is a website where anyone can advertise for anything (within the Terms of Use). It's like having a small wall to write on in your community to advertise for things small and large. (Just as a note, the "small" post is violating the terms of use, and actually, no one cares at craigslist if your post gets flagged. You're supposed to get flagged if you post crap ads.)

However, there's a problem with a tool like craigslist. Anyone can use it. There are a number of crimes that have been committed using the service, including the media sensation, the craigslist killer. There are a number of ways to abuse the site, and it's a real perversion of the aim of the site that things like that happen.

The site's design and intent is to make it easier for people to sell their small items. Who wants to pay a fee just to have someone see their stuff and *maybe* buy it, as in a newspaper? Who wants to put their stuff online, but then have to pay a fee on an item that's going to sell for less than 50$?

I bring up this topic here because I know the popular phrase from 2nd amendment proponents: "Guns don't kill people. People kill people." But is it the same thing with a website? Is the website somehow to blame for sex trafficking, given all that the CL staff does to work with law enforcement officials, or is it just a tool, and people are the real problem? (The extension of this, that people are the problem, poses some difficulty when trying to come up with solutions.)

craigslist doesn't allow overt sex talk on the site or pornographic images, and it's explicitly stated that you shouldn't go in there unless you're 18. But pimps trafficking kids under 18? That's just sick. And, it does happen. The question is, will the site getting rid of these posts actually a) get rid of them on the site, b) move the posts somewhere else on the site, or c) be effective in stopping the practice?

It's a pretty terrible debate to have with yourself: Where does the blame lay when something terrible happens? If you believe in God, doesn't that make things more complicated? (Maybe I shouldn't have brought it up, because it *really* complicates things.) I'm sort of leaning towards the people as being to blame for the issue, but, as some of you know, I'm for gun control policy. I actually do think that giving people weapons makes them more likely to use them for a terrible purpose. So is craigslist a weapon? What makes it so different?

(Just to reiterate, it's my birthday in a couple weeks. Go donate me a birthday present to some schools in Ohio!)

Hello Everybody:

I just thought I might blog about my relentless pursuit of upgrades for my M1A1 Thompson. I started with the idea that I bought a cheap gun, so I could afford expensive upgrades over time ... less of am impact on the budget, etc.

Well, some of you have seen my work on my Thompson because I have posted it and I'm very proud of it.

I first started by simply upgrading the battery from 8.4v to a 9.6v ... a friend turned me on to this type of upgrade, it seem harmless and it was good. I then jumped right into mainlining upgrades to the gearbox ... first the bushings, then the cylinder, piston, tightbore inner barrel, etc ... OMG, I went from 350 fps up to 380 fps.

Still, it wasn't enough. I wanted more. Not only did I want a high muzzled velocity, I wanted ... no, no I craved ... a high rate of fire.

So, going from 8.4v to a 9.6v was good ... then going from a 9.6v to a 10.8v or even a 12v would have to be better, right! So I did it! Got a 2000mAh 10.8v battery an put it in ... the ROF was awesome, but the battery was so hot, I could have used it as a hand warmer :(

After that fiasco, I checked into rehab.

In rehab (Ajax Chat), I found that what I really needed to do was stick with the 8.4v/9.6v battery with my current level of upgrades for my AEG’s … but I should investigate upgrading the motor. I should look at optimizing my guns performance in both muzzle velocity and rate of fire … rather than maximizing each of them.

Balance, Grasshopper, balance. (Kung Fu)

So, out of rehab tonight, I bought a Systema Turbo motor … it works great … once I get some figures on ROF increase I’ll post.

Now, I’m worried about the tappet plate and the gears … oh well, there is always tomorrow!

I messed up my neck a few weeks ago. I had slept funny, and for about three days I could barely move my head. I went to a doctor and got some crazy pills, but finally I realized I needed to have a massage of some kind. My coworker suggested her friend, a Certified Massage Therapist who gave great rates to friends. I thought I was getting a great deal and meeting someone in the City, to boot!

I talked with the CMT over the phone and we agreed to meet at my place for a bit, and then head to the beach to meet up with her friends and do a bit more work on my neck at the beach. My initial thought was, "Hey, I'm going to finally meet some people in San Francisco! This is cool!" And it was cool. It was just... different than I expected.

We met at my place and she worked on my neck and shoulders for about 20 minutes. It was already starting to feel better. I had thought enough ahead to grab some large bottles of water for the beach. I cleaned up some strawberries and brought a blanket as a peace offering to my new acquaintances. Before we left, she mentioned, "Oh, by the way, there may be some naked people there. The part of the beach where we're going is where people usually get naked. It's just some naked hippies."

I thought to myself, "Oh, well, okay, I don't have to get naked," and mentally shrugged and accepted this caveat in the plan. After all, there was no nakedness at my apartment. She was just giving me a neck and shoulder rub. I am, at heart, a Midwestern with rather... hmm. I don't want to say "prudish" sensibilities, but I do admit to some conservatism.

It was a 50 minute bus ride, and the CMT and I talked easily the whole way. We trekked down to the beach, and it was a beautiful day. There were many people about enjoying the rareness of a San Francisco hot sunny day.

When we got to the end of the beach, everyone was naked. Naked sunbathers. Naked volleyball players. Naked everything. Even the dogs were naked. (Okay, they usually are, but I thought to include them for the sake of completeness.)

I will cut the rest of this short in favor of some censorship-

Everyone talked about sex. The whole time. My CMT got naked pretty quick and people ate food off of each other.

I sat, clothes on. I marveled at all the flesh. There was... so much of it. Women usually left their underwear on, but the guys tended to go trunksless.

I was shocked. Completely shocked. Not in the way that I disapproved, but simply that I wasn't ready for the sex, the flesh, and the ease with which people just took off their clothes.

I played it cool, but I had to cut the evening short as I had to make it home to let the boyfriend into the house. I was unclear about the CMT. (Okay, I was unclear about WTF had just happened, period.) She had talked about some modeling and some "shoots," but I wasn't quite sure what that meant. They had talked about some friends that were Prima Donnas, high maintenance porn stars. I couldn't quite make sense of what had just happened.

I was shocked the whole way home. The next day, my coworker groaned and sighed when I told her what happened. "That always happens. She (the CMT) is a porn star and a lot of the people there are really into sex all the time. When they go to the beach, something like what you saw goes on." She shrugged her shoulders and comforted me, who felt better, but was - and still am, even as I write this - confused.

How do you come to terms with something so odd and alien when you're not prepared for it?

How do you deal with the gap that arises when you have no idea what's going on, socially?

What do you say when some random man proposes someone else's boyfriend motorboat you? Now, imagine you don't know what a motorboat is. THEN what do you do?

Culture shock is a *****. I knew when I moved here that San Francisco was full of hippies, but I sort of felt myself to be pretty much on the side of the hippies. After last weekend, I realized that I'm still just a Midwesterner who's new in town, still carrying all the conservative ideas about sex and nudity that I was brought up with.

Last sunday i accompanied my family out to my uncle's 90th birthday. Knowing that it would be an elderly function i expected two things. Food and boredom. What i didnt expect were the events to follow...

Most of my family resides on the outskirts of portsmouth. East, west and north. In fact, there is a jewelry store in the family downtown portsmouth, Morgan Brother's Jewelry. Coincidentally, my step father's mother aquired a property on the western side of portsmouth on the border of Shawnee State Park. We've been using it for years as a great way to get away from the city lights and bask in the beauty of nature in the comfort of quiet, distant neighbors.

A few years ago there was a rash of theft where the "cabin" as we call it had been vandalized and broken in several times over the period of a year. Each subsequent breaking and entering resulted in more and more stolen. Eventually all that was left were cabinets, couches and beds. Then, as sudden as it happened, it stopped. There hadnt been any issues for nearly 2 years...until last sunday.

As it was on the way, we decided to check out the latest renditions, a work in progress, that my grandfather had started. It used to be a story and a half, the kind that resulted in a large vaulted cieling for roughly half of the second floor. Personally, i was always fond of this style of design. He's currently in the process of removing the second floor and extending the primary floor to accomodate the two bedrooms that were upstairs. As we drove up the long drive to the house we noticed the security gate opened and missing the pole used to lock the gate. Thinking nothing of it and assuming that during construction the pole was excavated we went on down the road.

After leaving the family reunion it was bothering my dad that the gate had been left open. We decided to once again revisit the cabin to scope the premises as well as spend a few minutes exploring and looking over the current construction. Currently there are two entrances. The primary entrance is enclosed by a screen porch. The secondary entrance is on the opposite side of the port located under a large covered deck. I went to the primary entrance while my dad went to the second entrance.

The one thing i hate most about my height is my ability to locate all spiderwebs. A house rarely visited is not without its collection of spiderwebs. After taking out my emotions on the woodpile inside the screened porch, i reached for the door knob expecting a secure door. As i grabbed the knob i found the door opening under the force most of us would use to turn the knob. Here the door stood partially open before me. I could see an ashtray on the floor and a few trashbags a few feet behind it. What do i do? Is there anyone inside?

It was at this moment of contemplation that i heard noise inside. Perhaps it was the wind, i thought. Standing there i played it through my head. Wind, i thought, yes wind coming from the screened porch traveling through the house to rattle something on the opposite side of the house. I felt like slapping myself. My second thought was maybe a squirrel found its way inside. As i stood their thinking, i heard the noise again. Perhaps my dad found the same thing i did, an unlocked door. We stumbled upon a successful robbery and he's walked into the house from the other door. I did what any normal person would do and i stepped over the door sill still with the door only partially opened and called out to him. "Dad, is that you?". I heard a noise again; I didnt hear the response i expected.

It took only a second for my flight response to kick in. As i rushed out the screen door i looked for something resembling a bat or something destructive for use. "Mom, i need something like a club!" i yelled as i ran down the stone steps. She rushed to her van to grab her tire iron. In the time it took to reach the bottom of the stairs and back up i stopped. Am i really going to play a hero, walk into an unseen environment with the tire iron to serve as my only defense/offence? I stopped and rushed back down the steps. At this point i was joined by my dad.

"Someone's broken in. The porch door has been kicked in. I asked him why he didnt respond to my calls. His look of confusion was the proof i needed to confirm my suspicions that there was someone still in the house. "Get in the van, we're out of here" he proclaimed. Rushing with emotions we found ourself backing down the road expecting to see someone run from the vacant vandalized weekend retreat. Once we reached the end of the drive, there still was no activity from the house.

Knowing we needed to call someone, we found ourself contemplating our next step. We would have to drive a good 20 minutes before finding cellphone service. We decided to stop at the nearest neighbor's house a half mile away and ask for use of their phone. If it helps paint a picture of the area we've grown to love, the neighbor did not have a phone. Back on the road i remember my mom asking why we werent going back to find who was inside. My dad, defending his actions, did not wish to find ourselves in a harmful situation which could have easily been the case. 50 minutes later we found ourselves with enough coverage to make the call to the adam's county sheriff. We agreed to wait for the sheriff at the end of the driveway. When the sheriff arived he looked us over suspiciously and asked that we stay where we were as he walked up towards the house, now with a menacing appeal.

As he walked up the hill my dad turned to me and said "How much time do we give him?" "Isnt this the point in movies where we hear gunshots and see a fatally injured sheriff stumble down the driveway" His jokes helped lighten the mood. Personally, i was filled anticipation hoping the sheriff would drag a junkie from the house and the day would be saved. As he was inside, a second sheriff pulled up further blocking our escape should the situation evolve into a horror scene often found in horribly written movies. We stood with him joking about the situation and how it had a moviesque feel to it. As we finished our jokes the sheriff came back down the hill and informed us that we could pull up the driveway to the house.

As we all walked into the house i noticed that the trashbags were no longer there. After explaining the noises i heard and the trashbags to the sheriff we concluded that who was there must have fled during the time it took us to call for help. A few minutes later my grandpa made his way to the scene. We talked about who we heard inside. "Almost got him" my grandpa said with frustration. My dad and i could feel he was dissapointed with our decision to leave and call for help. Now my grandpa is the typical countryman. Meaning, he's got quite the arsenal collection and has no problems taking the law into his own hands knowing that these thefts would not end.

We went over the things that were missing and offered our assistance to close up the cabin. During our exploration my brother and i noticed splatters on the floor. They were dark and looked like spilled stain on an already stained floor. At the time we assumed that they had always existed and must have been a spill during the staining process.

Not satisfied with our hypothesis a few minutes later i grabbed a paper towel with the intent to determine if it was a stain or easily removable. Not suprising, the splatters did easly lift with a little help via water. The sheriff had his suspicions that they might be blood as near the stains the pictures that once hung on the wall were no on the floor, their frames broken. He took his samples and the action wound down.

Not too long after, we closed up the house, said our goodbyes, and on our way back home.

After a short silence my dad said "Did you see his face? You and I should have went inside and restrained the guy. Charlie (my grandpa) really looked dissapointed because we had a chance to do something rather than fleeing the scene. Thinking about it then, i too really thought the right thing to do was to blast into the house seeking justice. "Dad, doing that would have gone against everything you'd ever taught me. Always to think before acting and do the smart thing. What if that guy was sitting in the corner with a gun just waiting for us to walk into view?" We've all seen whether in person or in video what a cornered person can do.

Thinking about it now, i know we did the right thing. It wasnt long ago that i read a similar situation which resulted in the wife fighting off intruders with an airsoft gun. At the time i remember myself thinking i too would do what it took to get the intruders out of my house. Having an open mind i also remember thinking that just because its what i'd like to do doesnt mean that in a situation of panic its actually what i'd do. In the end, leaving was the only 100% safe thing to do.

We did the smart thing. I hope that if anyone who reads this finds themselves in similar situation in the future that they'd do the smart thing too.

I've debated on doing this for awhile. I know that I can buy these chips premade, smaller, probably better quality, but I wouldn't learn anything. That's why I decided to build my own MOSFET. In parts, it is cheaper than buying one, assuming you already have the required tools.

So basically, I am creating this for my own use, maybe if I can build it more efficiently, I would sell these things for $10 or $15.

The goals of each prototype are simple:

To function

Act as drop-in wiring harness with deans plugs

CHEAP!!!

First Prototype
Homemade PCB
Basic Through-hole components

Second Prototype
Refine PCB
Shrink Size of chip (via Surface Mount Devices vs. through-hole devices)

Final Product
Refined PCB with silkscreen layer
Smallest Possible
efficient fabrication process

Later
Capacitors?
Potentiometer for ROF control?
3-rnd burst control?

I will be posting updates with my project as well as images\videos.

So, some of you may know me, and some of you may not know me. That doesn't change the fact that in about a month, I'll be turning 27. It's a pretty ugly number. A prime number. Not really brimming with the drunkenness of, say, 21 or 22, and not quite so defeatist as 30 or, heaven protect us all, 40.

Now, I know all of you were planning on buying me flowers and cake and diamonds and things, but instead, I'm asking you to spend some cash on something cooler:

My DonorsChoose.org 27th Birthday Bash O' Giving

That's right! I want you to spend the money on four (or however many you want, really) Ohio classrooms that are in need of supplies. I chose these four in particular because I'm really passionate about things like literacy, social/environmental responsibility, and music.

You can spend as little as five dollars. My goal is to raise at least twenty dollars for every year of my life: that's ... um... uhhhhh... FIVE HUNDRED FORTY DOLLARS. (I did it myself, without a calculator. Really.)

Now, if you're school age or having a rough time financially, please don't sweat it. I understand that situation as I was recently there myself (with the latter, that is... I don't think school age was quite "recent"). Obviously, I'm talking to the goons that can spare a little bit extra. But if you do have a little bit extra, even five dollars- please, consider giving. Your donations are tax deductible, and you'll know that you've helped a local (Ohio!) classroom meet its learning goals.

Thanks very much,

So i'm going to a little local game with some friends tommorow, we've been gathering people for a few days. But my question is why people must bring paintball guns to an airsoft war?! With frozen paintballs as well! Can someone please tell me why people think this way?? And why is it cool to have a gas 1911 that shoots 480 as this kid is claiming (and obviously lying)? Thanks for the opinions.
