A Review: ARES HK G36 Carry Handle with Scope and Red Dot

Posted 04-16-2009 at 07:35 PM by CaineHazen
I know I've had a few questions on this since I've had it out in the field. Now that I have 3 games under my belt with it, I thought I'd share my thoughts on it. I've noted to a few players in the field, that since Ares has taken over that these scopes appear to be dropping from the previous 160$ range, down to 80-90$range. Gunner and Redwolf both have prices listed in this range with these.

I must admit I am fond of this scope combo. The improvement from a 1.5x to a 3.5x magnifier has improved my ability to sight downrange and ID targets (Who aren't really well hidden in multicam). Even the sizing scale appears to work correctly on the scope. The red dot allows me to fine tune my aim quickly, and provides a bit more sight relief than the range scope as well. The red dot is also fully adjustable with the provided screw set, so I have managed to get it pretty much sighted for 75-100 ft range.

On the downside to this system however, the range scope is encased in a hard rubber, and the housing is larger than the stock CA scope. It also did not have adjustment springs located in the body. Because of these two factors, it is pretty much a straight ahead look with it. The red dot itself is very bright, and has no adjustment levels. Outdoors it works perfectly, but any indoor work with it will overwhelm the sight with its dot. I also noted that the handle itself seems a bit loser than the stock CA one, but it tightens down well and has caused no significant problem in the field for me.

Overall, with the price drop, I think that anyone wanting this to finish out a G36K or MG should look into grabbing one of these.

    Pics would be nice.

How does the eye relief compare with the CA carry handle?
